Hello to All Fellow Katahdin Breeders:

I am now full time on the farm and love it. I have time now for things that didn’t get done before or if I did not sure how.

So here I am typing this letter to let everyone know, what’s going on with the O.K.S.A. as well as our farm.

Our spring meeting went well; we had elections with members in the following position.

Our new Vice President is Jim Sabin; he has been raising Katahdin Sheep with his wife Saga for several years and is a great assist to the O.K.S.A.

Barbara Burdzy accepted the position of Secretary/Treasurer on Jan. 1/09, (after Donna Aziz retired, we wish Donna and Rick all the best and Thank her for her years of service to the O.K.S.A.)

Barbara brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the position. She is always on top of everything and does an excellent job with many great new ideas.

Chris Burdzy has accepted the position of Director on the O.K.S.A. board as well as being a Director for the C.K.S.A. He will be attending the A.G.M. in Regina in November.

Neil Mesman is Past President and a huge help with information and knowledge for putting together the agenda’s for meetings as well as any other help I need.

Our fall meeting was held on Oct. 24/09 at the farm of Jim and Saga Sabin. We had an inspection clinic for O.K.S.A.  members as well as any C.K.S.A. member who wanted to attend. 

Neil Mesman had contacted Lynette Kreddig to have the agenda printed in the C.K.S.A. newsletter before the clinic.

Our meeting started with a visitation and luncheon, Barbara brought sandwiches made by her local Community Living Centre. I ordered a cake from Sobeys that had a picture of one of the rams we have used here on the farm.

Garry like every farmer has been trying to get the field work done but the strange weather this year is not letting up.

It has been quite the year for weather; we had a cool damp July and then scorching hot days in August. With tornadoes, large hail and the thunder storms, life on the farm or anywhere for that matter has been interesting.

Our spring lambing went well with approximately 250 lambs from 150 ewes. We still have about 70 meat and breeding rams out of Sky 1492 T, and are awaiting our fall lambing, those will be sired by WCL 648 N. At present we have 2 sets of twins and a single.

We have sold quite a few breeding ewe lambs this year; this means that there is becoming more interest in our breed.
